Why families choose Gillotts

Gillotts is a trusted local independent funeral director. We’ve been serving our local communities of Eastwood, Heanor, Kimberley, Selston and Stapleford for more than 150 years.

Our down to earth and caring approach means that people feel reassured and comforted that we are here to help them through this difficult time.

Local families return to us generation after generation because they know we treat their loved ones with the same dignity and respect as we would our own family.

And our team of funeral professionals are all local people who live in, and are part of, the communities we serve.

We care enormously about the families we help and the people who rest in our care. Funeral directing is more than a job to us, it is an honour to be trusted to care for and arrange the final send-off for someone. And to help a grieving family at such a difficult time.

How we help

Most people have never had to arrange a funeral before, so we understand that when a loved one dies you are likely to feel distressed and anxious.

There are many things to be done and decisions to be made about the funeral. And it’s our job to help you every step of the way.

Firstly, we will bring your loved one into our care and they will rest at one of our funeral homes in Eastwood, Heanor, Kimberley, Selston or Stapleford.

We will then meet with you to discuss the funeral arrangements, helping you decide on the type of send-off your loved one would have wanted.

We will show you choices and options so you can make informed decisions based on your needs, wishes and budget.

And then we will take care of all the arrangements on your behalf. On the day of the funeral, we’ll be there for you and will ensure everything goes ahead just as you wanted it to.

Our history

Whilst our five funeral homes in Eastwood, Heanor, Kimberley Selston and Stapleford united under the Gillotts name in 2015, our business origins are as two local independent family funeral businesses; Gillotts Funeral Directors and the Eastwood Funeral Partnership.

The Eastwood Partnership can trace it’s origins back to the Victorian Era. And three of the four business partners (Barry and Elaine Hutsby and daughter Joanne) are from this side of the family business.

Anthony Topley, our other business partner, is son-in-law to the previous owner John Gillott, known as Jack. Jack retired from the family business in 1992 and Gillotts Funeral Directors was purchased by the Eastwood Partnership. Anthony has been part of the business since 1986.

With the origins of the two sides of the family business located in Eastwood and Heanor, over the years other funeral homes have been opened in Stapleford (in 1986), Kimberley (in 1997) and Selston (in 2016) to further support local families in these communities.

We also serve families further afield in right across Broxtowe, Amber Valley, Erewash and Ashfield including the towns of Ripley, Belper, Ashfield, Alfreton and Long Eaton.

Over the years, our name has changed but the family business approach has always stayed at the heart of what we do which is why we remain as a respected and trusted funeral director that families can rely on.

Families know and trust that we will look after them and their loved ones with the highest degree of care and consideration, supported by personal touches that make all the difference.
