This year’s Brinsley coffin walk was a great success, and once again the weather was kind.
The walk recreates the journey from Brinsley to Greasley Church that Brinsley families had to take before the village got its own Church and Churchyard in 1861. The walk has been taking place since 2004 – until last year a small replica coffin was used, but last year for the first time, the walk was completed using a full-size coffin, produced by Steve Soult Ltd, our coffin manufacturers and carried by members of their staff.
This year the walk took place in memory of Stan Smith, who instigated the walk in 2004 and had organised it every year since. Sadly, Stan passed away a few months ago. Stan’s widow Christine joined us on the walk, and was grateful that the event had been organised in Stan’s honour.
